A quick cost analysis (per dumbell):

Ironmaster 75lb at $224.5 = $3 per pound (increments in 2.5lb) includes pedestal stand, expandable to 125lb
Turbobells 60lb at $150 = $2.5 per pound (increments in 2.5lb) includes tripodlike stand, not expandable
Bowflex 52.5lb at $189.5 = $3.6 per pound (increments in 5lb) includes weight tray, not expandable
Powerblock 60lb at $184.5 = $3.1 per pound (increments in 5lb) No stand, not expandable
VersaBell 50lb at $131.5 = $2.63 per pound (increments in 10lb) includes weight tray, not expandable

One major advantage of Ironmaster is that it has 1-inch holes which will fit standard 1-inch threaded weight bars including the spin-lock ez-curl bars. So you can easily turn dumbells into barbells.

I have had this system for three years now and love it. I purchased the additional add on weights to take it to 135Lbs by dumbbell. I find it very quick and easy to change weights. This system works real well in conjunction with a heart monitor. I can get my heart rate up and keep it in a target range, minimizing rests and making the workout efficient and effective. The workout becomes an interval style of workout, and I can see the impact on my cardio fitness. These weights have been outside the whole time on a covered pation and appear to handle that just fine. I also purchased the workout bench from Powerblock and would recommend that. I used to own a whole mess of loose dumbbells (and mess is the operative word) but converted to this system. All of my weights sit on a 2' by 2' stand and are not strewn all over the patio, thus minimizing complaints from the wife. I have not had any problems with the selectors nor the 2 1'2 lb mini-weights. If you are going to but a dumbbell set, you cannot go wrong with this system.

Petra Kolber's Cardio Interval Training reinforces my admiration for Petra and her professionalism. What really attracts me to her style is that they are simple, easy but very effective. It gives you an instant fix, as well as a sense of well being which is just fabulous! My arms and legs are now more toned, without ugly bulky muscles. The shape the workout gives you is just really sexy, not over, not under - healthy, but still feminine of course that is, if you do her workout at least 3 times a week. Of course I do other workout still, like Petra's Sweat Factory which are faster, but I see the different shape I have since I started this new DVD. Congratultaions Petra! I'm a die hard fan and you still loook ever so wonderful!!

I first started looking at the adjustable dumbell sets when I saw the set Bowflex has/had (SelecTech 552). I stopped looking at them when I found out that the adjustable weights on the Selectech and its imitations have fallen of while in use. After doing a lot of research I found a ton of others. None of them looked reliable. Came across these and it turns out that this simple design is the safest and most sturdy of all, and if I'm not mistaken, also the original adjustable dumbell set, patented sometime in the 90s.

Hands down, get these if you're in the market for a set; they're also hundreds of dollars cheaper than barbells and take up about one square foot of space for the two of them. That's nothing for a weight set.

And the other biggy: They're MADE IN THE U.S.A. !!!
